Update on water supplies

B&Q has now run out of supplies of bottled water.

Sainsbury’s on Prior’s Road will be open where council staff will be distributing a supply of bottled water from 8am tomorrow morning.

Further deliveries of bottled water are expected throughout tomorrow. All local media will be updated on deliveries, as well as the council’s website www.cheltenham.gov.uk

The website also details the locations of the bowsers across the town. If people find that the bowsers are empty, they are asked to ring the telephone number displayed on the bowser to arrange a refill.

Delivery of bottled water to vulnerable people who are unable to leave their house can be arranged through the council by phoning 01242 262626.

Keeping your boiler safe

In the event that you lose your mains water supply you are strongly advised to turn your boiler off so that there is no risk of damage to or from it due to possible overheating of your hot water and/or heating system.

Your boiler should remain turned off until such time as your supply is reinstated and you are certain that the hot water and or heating system is fully replenished with water.

Message to council staff

The council is planning to open its offices tomorrow (Tuesday). All employees are asked to come into work as usual as long as it is safe for them to do so. The board will keep the situation under review and updates will be posted on this website. If you are in any doubt please phone your office or if you cannot get through phone our switchboard on 01242 262626.  You are also advised to keep tuned to Radio Gloucestershire.  

Council switchboard extended opening

The Cheltenham Borough Council switchboard (01242 262626) will be open until 10pm this evening to deal with urgent enquiries regarding flooding.

Further emergency planning

The team at the council has been offering support and advice to members of the public and local businesses who have been affected by the floods.

Steps are being made to ensure that the emergency management team can continue to operate, in the event of loss of power or water.

The rest centre that was used over the weekend, at Pittville Pump room has now closed and plans are being made to set up another rest centre at a different venue, if needed.

Operating a food business in the event of a water stoppage
