Support to those affected

Following the adverse weather conditions yesterday, Cheltenham Borough Council is continuing to offer support people affected by the floods.

The council is operating an emergency rest centre at the Pittville Pump Room and over 300 people spent last night at the Pump Room. They were looked after by council staff who supplied bedding, pizza and other essential supplies and offered their support. Some people have now left but 150 people are still there unable to return to their homes.

Local businesses have given their support. Matelan stayed open so council staff could buy extra blankets and duvets for the rest centre and Sainsbury’s have offered £50 of food. A local nursery offered cots and members of the public came forward with offers of accommodation.

The council is continuing to operate its emergency management team. If you have a flood related problem then you can call the council switchboard on 01242 262626 and you will be given information regarding the emergency numbers.
